Some choices take real courage — and producing Late Company by Jordan Tannahill as our very first fully staged production was absolutely one of them.
This wasn’t the “easy” choice. Choosing a show that dives headfirst into themes of LGBTQ+ youth, suicide, politics, and accountability was, in many ways, stepping into the fire. But it was also the right choice.
It reflected everything Inspiration’s Edge hopes to stand for:
Safety and empathy – creating a space where difficult, necessary conversations can happen with honesty and care.
Inclusivity and co-creativity – uplifting all voices and inviting collaboration at every level.
Boldness and growth – taking risks in the name of innovation, knowing that discomfort often leads to transformation.
Celebration – honoring every single person who contributes to making theatre happen.
Through Late Company, we found more than a production; we found growth, connection, and a community that feels stronger than ever.
A Journey of Growth
As a director, this process stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. It challenged me as an artist and a leader, and I’ll carry those lessons forward.
The gift my cast gave me (you can see it in the photos below) means more than I can put into words. It’s a reminder of the kind of impact I hope to have in this world: lifting others up and knowing that the work, the growth, continues long after the final bow.
Gratitude Beyond Measure
To everyone who trusted my vision and walked this path with me, thank you. It’s a strange, beautiful balance: striving to be the kind of leader I want to be while still feeling genuinely humbled when others see me that way.
To our fearless cast, our behind-the-scenes heroes, our volunteers, and every person who filled the seats — you made this experience unforgettable. I’m so proud of what we built together.
And most importantly: I can’t wait for what’s next. ~ Liyan McNeltier
